WHAT IS THE SCHOOL OF LEADERSHIP?
The School of Leadership is a ministry of Shepherd Nazarene Church in Gahanna, OH. Through our partnership with Mount Vernon Nazarene University’s online programs we offer various Associate’s and Bachelor’s degrees in addition extensive ministry experience, mentorship and discipleship.
WHO IS THE SCHOOL OF LEADERSHIP FOR?
The School of Leadership is for undergraduate university students looking to gain extensive resume-worthy church ministry or elementary education experience while completing university courses. Not only will the School of Leadership prepare you with necessary skills & education, but it will also give you the resume experience necessary to transition into the professional realm after completion.
WHAT DOES THE APPLICATION PROCESS LOOK LIKE?
Each student must fill out an online application. Once the application is complete, the School of Leadership team will reach out to schedule a video or in-person interview. If a student is accepted, they must also apply and be accepted to Mount Vernon Nazarene University to begin the School of Leadership program.
IS THERE AN APPLICATION FEE?
No....you will notice we are all about saving you money with this program!
WHAT DOES A TYPICAL SCHEDULE LOOK LIKE?
The School of Leadership will operate five days a week where students will be immersed in the culture of Shepherd Church, gain practical ministry and work experience, while pursuing a college degree. This will encompass the various church happenings on Sundays as well as mimicking the church staff office hours four days a week. Students will have Friday and Saturday off (special event permitting). Additionally, we will strive to keep at least 3 nights of the week available for students to work a part-time job if desired.
IS THIS AN ACCREDITED PROGRAM?
Yes, the School of Leadership is partnering with Mount Vernon Nazarene University, which is an accredited university and is authorized to award associate and bachelor’s degrees.
HOW LONG IS THE PROGRAM?
The duration of the program is determined by the student’s goals. Most students will join us for all four years of their undergraduate degree program. However the program can be modified for transfer students or those completing an associate’s degree or ordination course of study program.
WILL CREDITS FROM OTHER COLLEGES TRANSFER INTO THE SCHOOL OF LEADERSHIP OR CAN I TRANSFER THE SCHOOL OF LEADERSHIP CREDITS TO OTHER COLLEGES?
Yes. Our partnership with Mount Vernon Nazarene University allows the School of Leadership to transfer credits in and out the same as the university’s on-campus students. Each school varies, but most general and ministry classes will transfer into the School of Leadership and transfer out to other schools depending on what the other school or MVNU will accept.
DOES THE SCHOOL OF LEADERSHIP OFFER FINANCIAL AID OR STUDENT LOANS?
Yes. Because Mount Vernon Nazarene University is an accredited institution, its partnership with the School of Leadership enables enrolled students to pay for their college experience using federal financial aid. To be eligible for such funding, the student must file an Application for Federal Student Aid, also known as a FAFSA each year.
WILL I BE ABLE TO WORK A JOB WHILE ATTENDING THE SCHOOL OF LEADERSHIP?
Yes. But please keep in mind you will need to plan your work hours around your class, ministry track, and student life schedules.
IS HOUSING AVAILABLE?
Yes, housing can be arranged for non-local students. Shepherd Church is working to provide vetted host families who will provide safe, comfortable housing to our students.
ARE COMPUTERS PROVIDED?
Various computers and printers are available to students as they serve in ministry tracks at Shepherd Church. However, it is required for every student to bring their own laptop for coursework and assignments.
WILL I NEED TRANSPORTATION?
Yes. Students will need to have reliable transportation to get to and from Shepherd Church, as well as regular student-life activities.
WHAT IS THE COST OF THE SCHOOL OF LEADERSHIP?
Tuition for the School of Leadership is $10,000 a year which includes 24-30 credit hours of online college classes, over 100 hours of in-person instruction, ministry rotations, mentoring, student life outings, student housing (when needed), and much more.
WHAT DO I RECEIVE IF I FINISH?
After successfully completing the School of Leadership program students will have earned a college degree in addition to gaining valuable work, ministry, and leadership experience.
