Our Beliefs
- We believe in one God: the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.
- We believe that the Old and New Testament Scriptures, given by plenary inspiration, contain all truth necessary to faith and Christian living.
- We believe that man is born with a fallen nature, and is, therefore, inclined to evil, and that continually.
- We believe that the finally impenitent are hopelessly and eternally lost.
- We believe that the atonement through Jesus Christ is for the whole human race; and that whosoever repents and believes on the Lord Jesus Christ is justified and regenerated and saved from the dominion of sin.
- We believe that believers are to be sanctified wholly, subsequent to regeneration, through faith in the Lord Jesus Christ.
- We believe that the Holy Spirit bears witness to the new birth, and also to the entire sanctification of believers.
- We believe that our Lord will return, the dead will be raised, and the final judgment will take place.
Nazarene heritage
The Church of the Nazarene is a Protestant Christian church in the Wesleyan-Holiness tradition, tracing its roots to an anniversary date of 1908. It was founded to spread the message of scriptural holiness (Christlike living) across the world. Today the Church of the Nazarene is located in 156 world areas.
The Church of the Nazarene is also a holiness church. We believe the good news of salvation and holiness of life is for the forgiveness of sins, victory over sin, power to witness and serve, and a richer fellowship with God, all through the infilling of the Holy Spirit.
History of Shepherd
Shepherd Church of the Nazarene has a rich history spanning nearly 100 years. The church was founded in 1927 and has grown significantly since its inception. Initially, it served a small congregation, but over the decades, it has expanded both in membership and in the scope of its ministries.
In the early years, the church focused on traditional worship services and community outreach. As the congregation grew, so did the church’s facilities and programs. By the 1970s, Shepherd Church had established itself as a cornerstone of the Gahanna community, offering various programs for children, youth, and adults.
The 1980s and 1990s saw further expansion, with the church adding new buildings and launching innovative ministries to meet the needs of its growing congregation. During this time, Shepherd Church became known for its vibrant worship services, strong youth programs, and commitment to community service.
In the 2000s, the church embraced new technologies and methods to reach a broader audience. This included the introduction of online services, podcasts, and social media outreach, allowing the church to connect with people beyond its immediate community. The church also continued to expand its local ministries, including sports recreation leagues, food banks, prayer gatherings, and other community outreach programs.
Most recently Shepherd Church expanded in the Johnstown community with a satellite campus while remaining a vital part of the Gahanna community. It offers a wide range of services and programs designed to help people grow in their faith and serve others. The church’s mission is to help people take their next step toward Jesus, and it continues to do so through its various ministries and community involvement.
